China's EV Sales Surge Past 50% YTD 2025 In Relentless Climb

💚 🌊 China's EV Sales Surge Past 50% YTD 2025 In Relentless Climb 🌊 💚 In case you missed it whilst you were looking for a parking spot in your gas guzzler, recent reporting confirms that electric vehicles made up 53% of new car sales in June 2025 in China, pushing 2025 YTD share to around 50% thanks largely to continued growth in plug‑in registrations.

🔋 In China, the momentum is overwhelmingly clear: NEV sales reached nearly 12.9 million in 2024, representing about 41% of total auto sales, a jump of 9.3 points. Fully battery‑electric vehicles made up roughly 60% of NEV sales in 2024, with plug‑in hybrids accounting for the rest .

📈 Looking ahead to 2030, forecasts suggest EVs will command a dominant share of China’s auto market. The International Energy Agency projects EVs could make up as much as 80% of new car sales by 2030, driven by policy support and rapid industrial scale . Industry consultancy AlixPartners expects that just 15 core brands will represent about 75% of China’s EV/PHEV sales by then, reflecting consolidation in a hypercompetitive market . Read more...

Germany & Canada Extend Under-Cover Cooperation into GreenH2

💚🌊Germany & Canada Extend Under-Cover Cooperation into GreenH2 🌊💚You wouldn't necessarily think of German and Canada as good economic allies. However the extent of their cooperation is quite surprising, primarily stemming from their participation in the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Of course European Union is the real glue to this CETA relationship, but that's also for the good of both countries.

🇩🇪 The latest line of cooperation comes as Germany opened consultation on a €400 million bilateral green hydrogen auction with Canada. This is the latest piece of the puzzle in its global H2Global strategy, a funding mechanism designed to secure long-term contracts for clean hydrogen imports. The goal is to close the cost gap between expensive green hydrogen production abroad and lower domestic sales prices in Germany.

🍁 Canada is being brought into the fold as a “strategic country,” with up to 200 MW of electrolysis capacity eligible in this round. That’s enough to trigger serious activity in regions like Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, where hydrogen export plans have been waiting on a clear offtake signal. With this move, Germany is sending one. Read more...

ICJ Advises Govs Climate Action Legal Liability, But Who Will Listen

💚🌊 ICJ Advises Govs Climate Action Legal Liability, But Who Will Listen 🌊💚 Have you also noticed that the United Nation's highest court, the International Court of Justice, has been largely ignored in recent years by numerous governments across the globe? We've moved into an era when the ICJ makes judgements that resonate with like-minded populations, but quickly meet a cold shoulder from the very leaders that have come into their crosshairs. So how does the ICJ's recent decision on Climate Action create any real consequences for the policymakers that have shrugged off their recent opinions?

⚖️ The new advisory opinion from the ICJ marks the first time the Court has taken a position on states’ legal duties regarding climate change. It didn’t just issue a bland affirmation of international climate frameworks. It clarified that states must act to prevent foreseeable harm tied to climate change. It also made it clear that economic development cannot be used as a shield to justify delayed or insufficient climate action.

🧭 This ruling reframes climate inaction as a legal liability, not just a policy disagreement. Countries now face a clarified standard on what counts as “due diligence” under international law. That includes reducing emissions, protecting human rights, and cooperating across borders to prevent worsening impacts. No longer can governments plead uncertainty or hide behind national discretion when human rights and ecosystems are being visibly degraded. Read more...
